No Hard Feelings

There’s lyrics to this song that hit the soul in a way that makes you stop and think about what really matters at the end: love.

“When my body won’t hold me anymore And it finally lets me free Will I be ready?”

Think about it for a hot minute… None of us know when we’ll take our last breath. So our words should be full of grace, mercy, and love — just like Jesus. He didn’t bear grudges. He didn’t withhold invitations. He didn’t point fingers in judgment. He didn’t give the silent treatment or slam the door and bolt it down. Instead, He held space with mercy and grace.

“When jealousy fades away And it’s ash and dust For cash and lust And it’s just a hallelujah Love in the thoughts Love in the words Love in the songs they sing in church And no hard feelings.”

So much of what causes hard feelings is plain and simple jealousy that grows ugliness — unnecessary ugliness and pointless bitterness. Lord knows jealousy hasn’t done much good for anyone. That’s the honest-to-God truth. And at the end of our lives, we don’t want jealousy, grudges, gossip, or resentment to be what people remember.

We want to live and leave with no hard feelings — only love in our:

• thoughts
• words
• actions

Scripture says:

“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” Romans 12:10 (NLT)

And:

“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” Colossians 3:13 (NLT)

If we can follow these verses — if we can forgive, honor, make space, and show mercy — there will be no hard feelings. Let’s try it. Let’s choose love — the way Jesus does.
